Chapter 6

From task to solution

In short: it is a long way from a given imaging task to the final physical imaging system. As a first step, the imaging task and given parameters are analysed and the desired parameters are determined. Based on this basic consideration, an appropriate start system is chosen, evaluated and—as the case may be—optimised until the desired imaging quality is achieved. Finally, the manufacturing tolerances are determined and documented. These steps including the particular theory and approaches are introduced in the present chapter.
